Hi, I asked opinions before (another board) because I have no idea what this cab is. One wise person that is usually very good and on the nose about things said coral. I would like others to weigh in. The mark is EA in an oval and 14k 585 They thought it was a piece from Arthur's Jewelry, Hawaii but I was having a hard time trying to match it to anything even similar. I want to be sure so I can list it properly It is kinda speckled and has been smoothed down Any help is greatly appreciated

Doesn't look coral to me, looks carnelian or similar. There's veins in it.

It does resemble carnelian, but in the second last picture there seems to be a little sparkle in it. If so, it is red aventurine.

The second to last photo looks blurred, so 'sparkle' may be exaggerated, but if there are flecks, agree with AJ.

Definitely not coral. Best guess: aventurine (not a typo) feldspar, also called sunstone. Some specimens are more glittery than others. The green stone called aventurine that is seen more often is aventurine quartz.

Are you sure it's EA & not maybe EN? I'm getting an Italian feel from it.

Hi It does have tiny areas of kind of sparkle but does not look like that glittery stuff that they make those ball bracelets out of I'm gonna google the red aventurine as I've never heard of it before I was skeptical of it being coral and was even thinking maybe some type of opal be right back!!

It does not have the sparkles all over Only a few spots here and there It does resemble the red aventurine This is so frustrating It is speckled all over in color variances

Looking again, it looks like the mark is E for sure and then an A or R It is not an N N

Googling images, this has to be red aventurine. Thank you, everyone. Whew! I would have never guessed that one. You guys are amazing!!! Enjoy your weekend!

My first thought was carnelian. Or red onyx or red aventurine.

I really like the setting. :)

Italian here as well. possibly rests of shell that was used for cameos.

Wrong growth pattern. Although it can be the color of the stone in the pendant, shell is very orderly & does not have flecks. Not as red, but this is how shell looks under magnification:

You raise an interesting question: what did cameo workshops do with the remains of all the shells they used? Did they find a use for them? Ground up & the calcium carbonate used somehow? Cement?

On the Italian train of thought, aventurine feldspar was first identified & named in Italy. Think I read somewhere that it was given the name because it was found by chance, by adventure.

Yes, good thought, although I see so many more cameos than strands of helmet shell beads, they can't have been using all the leftovers that way.
