Hey guys so I’m 16 years old and I collect and resell military antiques kind of as a hobby and I recently came across this unique piece and have not been able to find any information on it or similar badges of any kind. It is inscribed Bryan Kern, 1908. If I had to guess I would say that 1908 is the year Bryan was born which would have made him 31 when WW2 began. There’s a chance it’s not even military related so I didnt post it in the militaria forum. I’m thinking that it originally went to some type of coat or something but that’s just a guess. Anyways I would like to figure out if it is pre or post ww2 era and what is it actually is. Thanks any information is appreciated lots.

In 2012, so I have no idea. I’m not a seller. You can look for more current listings or someone else may have an idea. But it seems as though you got a very good deal.

Here's a different medal from the campaign also on a leather strap fob:

Considering that women couldn't vote at the time, the price is not the only reason I find this amusing:

And yours is in better condition & has the strap. There seem to be a lot of pin back buttons still out there; the swastika ones are evidently not so common on the market.

The piece on worthpoint sold for about $29 in 2014. Very nice piece + welcome, @Zachreagles!

One must remember that the swastika was a common and popular symbol in America before it was demonized by Hitler. It's a shame really.

The Nazi swastika was rotated 45 degrees:

That's a common misconception actually. There are many examples of period TR items that have a 90 degree axis swastika versus a tilted 45 degree one. It's true that most flag swastikas were tilted but not everything was, including the state service flag.

Interesting that that flag has both the 90 degree and 45 degree!

fake flag. the Führer would not have been amused with the many US weekend warriors. there was never a flag with a swastika the arms of which would touch the outer circle.
P.S.: these showed up when Gary Lauck and other US-clowns started to make a fast dime on the internet because they thought they could trick the European legislations...

    Welcome @Zachreagles,
If you return to the first link “I Need Help” provided and go to the previous lot, you’ll get a good likeness of the two. Great find, and wish you many more.

You're referring to the flag posted by Marie Forjan correct?

Didn't know they had photoshop in 1942. That photo was taken by Davies, F A (Lt) a Royal Navy official photographer during WW2. It is a photo about the dog and has nothing to do with the flag.

    https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205185945

As previously stated, there were several Third Reich flags bearing static swastikas (non tilted). Including the German state service flag (as shown in the photo), the Führer's own standard, and a couple SA related flags also if memory serves me correct.

I won't even get into party pins and badges. If your gonna act like you know Hitler personally (by virtue of the reply you made regarding his personal feelings of amusement towards a flag and US weekend warriors) at least get your facts straight.

BTW- What is a "US weekend warrior"? Explain please. Sounds rather derogatory in nature.

Nice. Such anger, what gives? Calling people names shows weakness, you should refrain.

I really don't get the argument here.

As for proof, I guess the period photo by the Imperial War Museums (actual brick and mortar places) is not proof enough for you?

I will add one more before I'm finished which I'm sure you will say is fake also. This image is in regards to the Altmark incident and clearly shows the arms extending to the inner circle that divided the white from the red main.

I will post another link too just because I can.
Go on this forum and call them dorks too.

In closing I will add that I am not a nazi nor a sympathizer, though I can't say the same for others here. ;)

I find Digum & James to be quite convincing in backing up their thoughts about the nature of this symbol.
