I found these 2 paintings at a thrift store today; I grabbed them directly as they came off the truck!
But, I have 2 problems; I don't know who Tiffany is - I couldn't find anything under Haitian artist Tiffany painting. Does anyone know who the artist is?
2nd - I am worried that they might not be paintings! They feel so smooth; there is no ridges or bumps when you rub the surface. And on 1 the painting/scene (child's back) goes around the frame's side (last photo).
BUT(!) - If you look at the back you can see where paint brush strokes went over ( third from last photo) - what are these? watercolor? Print on canvas?
Thanks in advance for any help - either way these are 2 of my favorite paintings from all the ones I've bought this year!

Any guesses? If not sure like I'm not, how would you list it)title)/ explain it?
    Thanks

Whimsical? As in "playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way."

Are you sure those aren't giclées?

No I have no idea - I thought they were prints/giclees because surface was so smooth until I saw the paint strokes on edges that made it look like ut was painted

Some tips to help in the assessment

-The fact there are uneven paint edges suggest it could be genuine but this can be faked as well...

-try to see from the back holding the paintings against a light source to see whether some areas would be blocked (the areas of heavy paint)...of course giclee prints sometimes would have added false brushstrokes and paints hence this method may not be entirely conclusive as well ..

    - when you feel it with your fingers does the "paint" seem to have seeped into the canvas or does it feel it is on top of the surface as layered (as should be if genuine)?, try to make a judgment...to do the third method well, if would be good if you have a known giclee around to get acquainted on how it feels with your fingers for comparison,,

if genuine it looks acrylic work to me

Look at last photo where the boys shirt goes around the edge of the frame - it looks like a mirror image of the shirt?
It wouldn't be painted like that would it?

I believe your artist may be Tiffany Erwin Cant from Delray Beach.

Now let's see if we can identify them by title... The first is 'Banana Hat' and the second is 'Friendly Wave.'

Size determines price (which she doesn't give on her web site.)

No connection to Haiti, by way. They'd best be considered "Caribbean" art.

Giclees have very little resale value.

If they don't sell I'll keep them - I think they are cool - but I do wish they were paintings!
PS - Thanks lithographer & Debora!
