My in laws purchased these in a Los Angeles area antique shop over 50 years ago. They have no makers marks whatsoever, so I have no idea where they were made or how old they are. I gently cleaned them a few weeks ago but still want to show that they are old. I know that some Antiquers can identify them by the type of handle, seams, etc. so I’d appreciate any help.

They are all under 12”. Details will follow.

From left to right, the smallest one has a flared out base and what looks to be a hand-crimped top. The handles also appear to be copper. The design is odd because there is no pouring spout. There is only one seam on the body, where the side handle is. The other seam is on the bottom, underneath. That seam has yellow metal. I have no idea what the purpose of this one was.

Thr middle one looks the most primitive. It is also unusual in that it has three of the twisted handles on top, instead of two that are commonly seen. There are also two side seams. The bottom seam is not underneath the pot, but towards the bottom, so it’s visible. All of the seams have a yellow metal. Its twisted handles aren’t copper; they won’t reality polish up, and they look pretty rusted (but still solid). It’s pretty big and we’ve been using it for fireplace logs, which may have been its original use.

The third and largest is very pail-like. Its top twisted handles appear to be copper. There is only one side seam, and the bottom seam is at the very bottom. Both seams have the yellow metal look of the others.

Photos of the individual pots will follow.

Middle-sized pot with two side seams and rounded bottom:

The first photo is a close up of where the side and bottom seams meet.

I’ve tried to get close-ups of both side seams. The bottom seam is visible; it’s not underneath the pot, unlike the bottom seam on the other two.

This is of the largest, most pail/bucket like of the three. The other two shapes seem pretty unusual to me, but I’ve seen some similar to this online. We’ve also used it as a fireplace log pail, which this might be.

There are two top twisted handles with a handle on top. Unlike the other one, these handles appear to also be copper. I’ve posted close ups of the side and bottom seams. Again, there is only one side seam. It’s pretty prominent and yellow.

Thank you, everyone. As you can see the construction of each is different, of the number and placement of seams, and the shape of the dovetailing.

I’m happy to post more photos if needed.

Thanks. As I try to learn from the experts here, what are the key characteristics, e.g. the type of seam, the style of the handle, etc. Also, any idea as to the age?

The seams are brazed with brass.
