Actually,it's the wood underneath. Wonder if they are just recent repros? They did have several layers of crap on them but that could be anything xx

Chinese stamp seal for Lady "Luo Yan (罗雁)"
dated: summer, 1897 or 1957 or 2017. Most likely summer in 1957 or 2017.

In the 80s when decoys were all the rage a zillion of then were made in Asia for the decorative market. Id say thats what these are.Love the seal kit,I wonder what that reddish stone is ?

Oops, don't clean the bottom, some people prefer them used. You can make a print using the wax, that way you get the correct picture, instead of mirrored.

LOL, half inch, starting blocks for Diddy Men.
I thought they were about as big as an adult hand.

The white "paint" over the balsa wood and beneath the paint may be gesso, which would not hold water-proof paint onto the surface of wet wood very well. I think the ducks are purely decorative.

The text is the one you posted.

Her's don't show any sign of date or mark. Unless she stamp on a paper and I can probably read something from it.

Yes, I already suggested that to her. The seal itself is only a mirror image, and with all the different ways of writing things in Chinese it is best to have the proper image.

Yeah, i think that's right. Folk Art collectors muddied up the water so to speak during this time (1980s) but they did succeed in increasing the prices for these objects. I would note that most "real" decoys are only worth about $100 or so, a decent article on authentic bird decoys collecting

Is it possible to find out what the material is for the stampy tool? I don't think it's plastic ( but god knows I know nothing) ... it's quite lovely. Nice to hold.
