Featured 2 Antique French Pendant Lamps / Lights | Opaline Glass + Brass | Ca. 1900

Hi everybody!


Yesterday I bought 2 antique pendant lamps on a antique market.
The left one is a bit bigger than the right one.

*Items: Hanging Lamps.
*Materials: Opaline Glass + Brass Mount + Clear Glass.
(It's not really clear glass, but I don't know how to call it.)
*Origin: France.
*Age: Approx. 1900.
*Manufacturer: B.A.G. , Paris. (Signed/marked)

*Holophane Style lamps.

Could anybody tell me more about the maker?
I have been searching, but I can't find anything on "BAG, Paris".

I wonder if more information about this company would add some value to the lamps.
The smaller lamp has a crack in the glass. Unfortunately I found out after buying, when putting the light on. The left one (the bigger one) is in very good condition.

These are for sale btw!!

Not sure that knowing the maker will add value. If it would, I think you would be finding out more about the company. Look to be nice institutional or kitchen type lighting. Too bad about the cracked one. Pretty much negates value there.

I'm surprised. First of all that you found the company. Secondly that you've found one in the same style. And, although the inscription says Paris, that it's Designed by a Swiss company. And let's not forget; that my estimate was a half of a century off

Should I describe these lamps as "Swiss design, manufactured in France"?
Or something like that?

 

you should NOT describe them as manufactured in France. BAG Turgi had a warehouse a.o. in Paris for stock because during Bauhaus and art déco period they were leading in lamps for hotels, official buildings etc.. the mark Paris was "marketing" or for the French customs. as with watches, many Swiss items were exported in parts and reassembled in the destination country due to tariffs during the economy crisis of the 20s and 30s.
but alas, yours are in such a sorry state that value is minimal.
