Sadler teapot

Help please identifying the year of this teapot. Hand signed, Sadler, I believe.

Okay! Show me the way Jedi masters! All the pieces that I am posting are part of a collection from my grandfather. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and also ran an antiques store. Many of the items I’m posting have been boxed away for years since his passing. This Sadler teapot is hand painted with gold trim- I am not sure of the size but here it is on display with others as a reference.

 

Holy crap. I suck at this. Bare with me people. I swear I’ll get the hang of it.

 

do u have a foot long ruler.....throw it in the photo's ....that helps !..

I hope you're not too overwhelmed that everybody's been hitting you with posting advice. (I'm only going to add to it!)

Iphone photos often post sideways here, for some unknown reason. If yours do, just use the edit button immediately after uploading your picture, and rotate it back the way it should be.

I've rotated your photo, and I've also cropped it a bit to get rid of the non-relevant "excess" around the edges.



I always crop the photos I post here, since it allows for the maximum-size picture of the actual item I'm showing.

Just another "something" to add to all the advice people are throwing at you...

Yes, there IS a learning curve, but honestly, before you know it, it all comes so naturally that you won't even think about it!

Thank you so much for your help and kind words. And to everyone in this group for the advice so far and their patience. I know it comes from a place of making sure the forums works as intended so I am open to all feedback.
I will admit it has been very overwhelming to work through my grandfathers collections. The intention was to sell much of it; however it turns out my dad and I have the “collect everything gene” as well. It took us 3 years to get through his stamps, which was honestly a harder study than my PhD. In hindsight, stamps and coins are easy now thanks to the Scott catalogues. Porcelain and China feel like a giant amorphous black hole in comparison. I will keep posting pieces and appreciate all the guidance so far. Thanks everyone.

1) Is it helpful or unhelpful I post multiple items in one thread?
2) how do I rotate/crop iPhone images after I have added them to the thread?

If the items are related - all teapots, or all jewelry, or like that - putting them into a single thread is fine.

I don't think the date of the teapot is particularly important. Condition is more important, and some idea of capacity is useful.

That's a very attractive teapot.

 

One or two items per thread , helps keep things moving in a flow......more that that and who answers which item when, saying what....can get pretty hard to follow..
IMO...

 

Sadler, if it is, is a brown betty with decoration. Late 19th up to, oh, 1920s ish.

That lustre ware vase and jug are nice, and a bit older, late19th/early 20th. Vase is a good shape.

Other teapots look 30s and 50s, the pierced plate is 60s.

 

Thanks so much! I’ll look into the teapots a bit more and send some better pictures. Here are some better pictures of the lister ware jug and vase. The tall one is about 10” and the jug is 7.5”. They have no marks on the bottom. Any ideas where they originated? I’m sorry about the orientation of the picture. I’m still learning

 

Could you show the bottoms of those please? Even unmarked it's a big clue.

 

Handles have a Czech vibe to me.

Wellllll.... I think perhaps it can go either way. I've seen Czech, Japanese and even Austrian lusterware items that are nearly identical to each other.

Here's an example:

These 2 cat-handled pitcher/creamers are actually the same size (despite my mediocre photography skills, which make the one on the right look larger.)
They are obviously decorated very differently.


Even the shapes of the bases are very similar. (If you hold them, base to base, they actually "match")


The marks, however, show different countries:


If they didn't have those marks on the bottom, how would you tell where they were made?
