Large Chinese Man Woman Early Republic Period?

Snatched these up on my way home from work today.
The man is 13" tall, the woman 8". She has a mark on her back?
He lost an ear.
Really old green felt on the bottom.
Because of the broken ear i got them both for $9.00.
Hope someone might know a little more about these.

It's hard to tell from a picture with this kind of item, but they have the look/patination of resin with ground stone filler. The patination looks more manufactured than old.

Mark appears to be Da gui :

Awesome, Thanks for the Translation. I have no clue what it means for these figures. I am pretty sure they are clay of some kind. Very heavy. Total 10 lbs for both.
