THANKS! Nothing beat a try but failure!
It's a neat box, I am not sure what kind of box it is, on the small chest part at top there appears to be some dividers missing. It's identified as a "valuables box" but i do not know if that is correct. There was clearly a lock at one time on the top chest part as was common on personal ditty boxes now referred to as "bible box".

It isn't Dutch Frisian. It looks American to me. A little darling though.

The Dutchman came to America many moons ago, chucked his old country ways and said WATCH THIS! and proceeded to chip/relief carve this little box!

What was disconcerting to me was the carving on the back, it's very unusual to see that in america, matter of fact, first time i have seen this on an american piece in that time period.

OTOH if it was some Dutch dude who carved it for a wedding gift for his daughter...he might well do the back too.

That first box is sweet but I would cheat on it with Ruth any day, any time. Wow. Thanks for sharing.

I guess, it's possible for sure. Thing is, the box itself is unusual with those exposed drawers on case, i am not sure what the purpose of this box was, listed as a valuables box but that could be wrong.

LOL, yeah, ruth box has IT going on, no doubt. Not only a name & date but a family history of ruth allen in connecticut, it doesn't get any better than that! I messed up letting it go, regretted it ever since!

Oh yeah, will post the result. Best part of collecting really, the hunt. Thing is though with early american objects/furniture, even with the depression in prices, you are gonna lose much more than you win, just part of the dealio.
