    Good evening everyone,

Got this little guy as part of a demitasse spoon set, and I'm wondering if you think the purpose of this is for salt, for sugar, or something else? It measures 4 1/2" long, any suggestions are welcomed:

What amount ( dry or liquid) does the bowl hold?

The gilding in the bowl implies that it was for something like salt or another acidic food - like mustard. Gilding protects the silver surface from corrosion.

Not very much, I would say the bowl is about the diameter of my pinky.

?? So you can stick your pinky finger into the bowl and fill it completely?

Wow! - VIP coke spoon from Studio 54? :singing::nailbiting::nurse:

But seriously - what amount does it hold - a Tablespoon?

Well, at that size, I can only guess it was originally made for salt, although the length of the spoon shaft implies mustard or another similar condiment.

I would say less than a tablespoon.

    Hi,
It looks kind of like a candle snuff?

Maybe, but most candle snuffers have a bottom taper to extinguish the flames oxygen quickly , this has a convex/concave bottom?

If it was with a demitasse set I would say it is a sugar scoop. In Brazil all daytime coffee is served in demitasse cups and sugar is added by the scoopful. ( Morning coffee is served in regular cups with 1/2 milk.)

Heh, I have one of those little cuties - it's a coffee measure (kahvimitta), they come in different sizes and shapes, but yours looks about the same size as mine, holds 2.5 ml (about a 1/2 tsp.) - if you don't already know, the pattern is Kultakeskus' 'Musla':
