Hi everyone - I'm stumped on this one - it is a huge (47" height X 56" length) oil painting, in very good condition, but with a dusty frame - I am wondering what city these folks are congregating in? Who may have painted? Is is worth anything. For reference - I purchased for $20 today, and was told it came from the Belleview estate here in Florida - which is only about 15 miles from my home - and has been going through major renovations, updates, demolition, new ownership, etc. This painting was supposedly displayed in the lobby or main hallway. I purchased it mostly for the frame - but thought perhaps the painting for something someone may be interested in. It is quite charming in it's own way.

    Any ideas? Send 'em over - thanks in advance. 20210418_132139.jpg 20210418_132139.jpg 20210418_132214.jpg 20210418_132221.jpg 20210418_132139.jpg 20210418_132214.jpg 20210418_132221.jpg 20210418_132324.jpg

A genre scene. Wouldn't be surprised if your painting wasn't decorative. Does it have a signature? And would you post a photograph of the back including frame?

You will want to do a Google Images search to see if there is an original floating around out there.

Thank you - good advice - I did not see a signature, but did not look very carefully, I'm going to photograph the back and post. Thanks!!

The era is Georgian. Probably meant to be a French scene so the equivalent there.

Hi, looked all over, no signature to be found, it's kindof a strange image? The lady in that small cage/box, held tight with a pole, the man on the left waving people away, the people on the right all staring with interest? Does the lady with the fan look like a fortune teller? Also I have no idea of where they are by looking at the surroundings. The frame is wood and very heavy. I did a google image search - could not find this scene anywhere? help!! IMG_20210418_143851306.jpg IMG_20210418_144057257.jpg

Thank you Debora!! I am just curious by nature and it seems like everything I find is very weird and hard to find a reference to - the Georgian era is a great start!

Looks quite recent from the look of the back and the use of staples.

Yes, yours does appear to be a recent decorative painting, most likely from China.

Thanks everyone - I appreciate all the kind help - it's kinda cool and charming so I may keep it, I do not have much invested and thought it looked interesting- but it is probably not worth anything - the frame alone is fabulous!
