Does anyone know what this taffeta dress was made for ? Made by the Women's worker union, metal zipper pull.

    Thank You 010.JPG 016.JPG 017.JPG 018.JPG 019.JPG

Looks like a mid-to-late 1960s chiffon cocktail dress, or LBD (little black dress). Nice!

Boy, I'm not going to agree with those dates. Early 1960s okay, mid-1960s maybe but by late-1960s that dress would have looked really old-fashioned. Here's a 1966 evening dress; notice it's a knee-length fitted sheath with trapeze-shaped overdress. By 1968, hems were well above the knee and the trapeze-shape had taken over. Also, by the late 1960s, plastic zippers had been introduced and were being used instead of metal.

That style in my opinion would still sell today because while it rocks a vintage vibe it looks current as well. I hope that makes sense.

After 5 cocktail dress -- nice.

I still can't find any vintage dresses with the sheer fabric on front and flowing in the back.

The McCall's pattern I posted has something similar, Billy. It's a sheer attached curved cape with tie front and open Watteau pleat in back (named for the artist because many of the dresses in his paintings featured.) I'm not sure this period of vintage clothing is as popular as it once was but -- if the size is large enough for the modern customer -- should find a home. Just be sure and check the hem to see if it's original. Hemlines went up, up and up during this period and some women shorten their older dresses to keep up with fashion.

I wonder if that sheer part is considered a capelet?
I should know this -- I grew up in the shmatta biz but the old brain is too hot to think clearly.

Is there anything written on the tag you are holding out of the way?

    "Capelet" a much better descriptor.
