Jay, would you go back and repost your paintings as Full Image please? That would help us see what you have. Photographs of their backs would be helpful too. And can you tell us where you got them and what you were told about them?

Also, it would be helpful to have photographs of the entire work plus frame. That helps with dating.

The first one is of Verdun, France. The Chaussée Tower.

The other one is also a French subject. Imo they are by someone who clearly enjoyed painting and had a certain amount of talent, but was not a real artist. That means that you may never find out more about the painter.:sorry:

it's amazing what people find. what does it say in the lower left on the second one ? Rue St. Louis ? 13 or 19 ? probably on the river side.

We got these from my great aunt who travelled a lot while serving as an Army nurse around the WWII era. I only took a couple photos while I was down at my moms, so I will have to see what I can do about getting some others of the frames, etc... I do have the full size photos but this site will not let me upload them due to the size. I can email?? thanks for the input of these.

A photograph of the frames isn't important, Jay, if you family can date them to the 1940s and your aunt acquired them unframed. There is a car crossing the bridge in front of the towers which is useful for dating.

Duh! I just noticed that they both have "Verdun" written in the lower left hand corner!

And the building has what appears to be "19 Rue Saint Louis." Well, that certainly helps with identification.

go to google maps and give in "Parking du Jeu de Paume Verdun". then make a 180 and you see similar houses across the Sainte-Vanne river.

Yes, it's the back view of one of the houses on Rue Saint-Louis. (It's possible the street has been renumbered.)
