Thank you for the link, and good find! Indeed it looks like these photos may have been used/made available for that promotion.

IMG_4148 50.jpg Hello, I found the attached photo amongst some other Hollywood photos that appear to have been meant for theatrical film promotion. But this photo is a little odd in that it is advertising the film via a photo of what looks like a copy of Life Magazine. It also has some pencil writing on the right side that appears to be part of the photo negative (it's not written on the print). It appears to read "373-nth"? & "drop guide". I'm guessing the penciled info. is a guide for inserting the photo image into another medium such as a newspaper or something. Anyone have any ideas what this photo was intended to be used for? Sorry for the funky pic, I think you can enlarge it.

Does appear to be a proof sheet or some such.

The text below the tone box appears on all of the stills made for this picture. The exception here is "Exploitation Still". None of this is not part of the use, it's just standard identification for this specific film by National Screen Services.

"Exploitation" is a term that was used then for advertising. This would be used in connection with print advertisement.

They would likely be adding "as seen in LIFE Magazine" and the name of the theater, etc.

The "drop guide" is an instruction, for placement edge, to the publication. The other numbers may equate to 3/8". Also, it would not to appear in the ad.

    James.

PS: similar items were made for radio broadcast, like this 1934 Exploitation Disc for Greta Garbo.

My grandmother. Haven’t nailed down the date. Probably 20’s. Miami Beach. She’s 3rd from the right.

Thank you! She was a vaudeville dancer and then ran her own dancing studio in Miami for years while raising 4 daughters. A woman ahead of her time.

I recovered lots of photos from a local clearance today.

One stood out as it was in such superb condition and probably one of the best I've seen for its age.

I believe it was taken around 1888 in Grimsby, across the river from me.
    Its a wedding group.
The mens collars are not native to this area nor the coats.
The bridesmaids hats are something else.

Pencilled names on the back "Nielens" leads me to believe this was a Danish family.
There is a long standing Scandinavian community over there from the fishing industry.
