Hello Everyone - Somehow in a box lot I acquired a whole crowd of red clay cats. Each cat stands about 3 3/4" and is hollow. To me it looks like they were made in a mold and the mold seam was hand worked to be a little less visible. I'm assuming they are of relatively recent manufacture. I can't quite figure out what they were for as they has a flat area on the side. Any help regarding who, what, when would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Don

Not a clue, really. But they seem a bit large for table use, &, if this is a set & complete, nine would be a strange number for place settings. Wondering whether for use in flower pots in some way, to hide a watering or feeding device?

They reminded me a lot of those Chinese tomb figures. It never occurred to me that they might be used to lift flower pots! Thank you all very much!

    Hi,
I agree that they are to hold flower pots off the ground. I have eight or nine of mine which are copies in red clay of brass copies of table brass feet.

That's exactly what they are: flower pot feet or rests.

I honestly had never encountered these little guys before. It's a really neat idea. I know it's been said before but the knowledge base on this board is just incredible. And not just on rare items but also on everyday items that folks just may not come across much. Thank you sincerely.

I had some shaped like owls. I use them in the garden rather than indoors.
