I was going mostly on the serving pieces, especially the buttercup spoon and the ladles, and the box itself. Good tip on identifying patterns!

Interesting! Are patterns ever done in both Sterling and silverplate? That is what would worry me if I was buying mostly sight unseen and didn't have full info from the seller.

This is a lovely pattern by the way, seeing the close ups.

That's a great question, and the answer is sometimes yes. I definitely recommend people proceed with caution, because sometimes a manufacturer will name a sterling pattern, and the same pattern will be a different name when it is plated. This presents a few challenges. But I would say that overall the number of patterns in both sterling and plated silver is relatively low compared to the entire group of sterling flatware patterns.

    My reasons were
    1) Very nice box
    2) Even if not silver at $200 with that many matching items it would still have value.
    3) some pieces had that yellow look of plate whereas others looked very silvery.
    4) Very ornate pattern- couldn’t identify and didn’t know how or where to look so this was a stumbling block and probably where I would have lost my nerve if buying.
    5) The high points on the ornate pattern didn’t look a different colour which may have done if plate had rubbed away.

I looked at a bowl on FB Marketplace the other day and thought, no way that’s silver as it had that aluminiumy look inside so some of your knowledge is rubbing off Mr Nate!
    Thanks for the game :)

    My reasons were
    1) Mr. Nate has said that silver spoons and forks need to be thin because higher chances of it being silver. If they look big and bulky then its probably plated
    2) Its tarnish is not uniform. that struck me when i saw the ladle and some of the spoons.

PS: would never have been able to match the patterns.

I had an unfair advantage, I recognized the pattern, I've had some pieces before:)
Great score for $200 Mr Nate:)

That piece caught my eye initially too, I’m actually not sure what it is. I’ll get a closer photo later tonight, but recall it was marked EPNS or something similar.

They're weird, aren't they? They actually work pretty well, but they're generally not particularly well-made, or even attractive (to my eye, anyway) - mine looked kinda cute as a hook though...

Amazing buy man! I actually thought it was a different but similar pattern. So I was wrong but I still would have bought it. Many pieces just look like silver and the quality was obviously there. You did wayyy better than me on the one I mentioned. I still did ok though.
