    Don,

I think this goes both ways. I have a piece with the wicker that I have had a hard time selling. There is minor damage to the wicker and I have had no interest even at $40.00. I have resisted removing the wicker so far but may end up having to do so to be able to sell it. Any mention of damage, no matter how minor, seems to be the kiss of death on ebay.

It is sometimes unmarked. Also, you will sometimes just see either one of the two marks shown above. That arched Made in Japan is indicative. I believe the square mark is supposed to represent a flag.

I just sold a monumental 22" hand thrown, ruffle topped, waisted, typical green floor vase/umbrella stand (a little small for that though) this past summer for 165. No marks at all. It probably had wicker but it was long gone when I got it...for 30.
You do find the lily pattern around. It is popular.
My buddy had a covered bowl awhile ago that he did alright with even with a wee bit of damage if I recall.
It is a BIG plus to have that lid for sure.

Bear in mind that Awaji, like so many pottery catagories, is an area with many potteries. Like Staffordshire, or Limoges etc..

I think it's most often unmarked. At least that's been my experience around here.
Like I say, that's why I like it. once you know it it's easy to spot and most sellers haven't a clue as to what it is. Of course the simple made in Japan mark doesn't set off to many alarms even when found.

    Thanks, Greg.

I'm sure it's real, but at $0.25...I wasn't going to pass it by. I will be giving these to Sharona, along with my entire inventory of vintage costume jewelry. She's having a rough patch this winter finding items for re-sale in her neck of the woods and I'm just trying to help her out a bit. Not implying she needs the money whatsoever, just trying to share the wealth so to speak. Besides that, she appreciates vintage jewelry probably more than I ever will.

@Brad, I believe you are correct.....a much more rare piece. The images you posted is what one would normally find.

@Don, no the piece is not marked, but knew exactly what it was as soon as I laid eyes on it.

Nuff, have you been to Philly Flea (9th. & Springarden) this year?

No, not this year, but we went a few times last year.

Not sure what the hell this lil' (2 x 1-1/2 in.) piece is, but it appears to have some age.....I *think*. Purchased awhile back for I believe $5. The glaze reminds me a bit of Chinese Jun, but that's about all I can say/know. Very small grease pencil price on the base: $4.98(?).

Very nice find nuff, and it has the lid!
I picked up this souvenir piece from the first Calgary Stampede (1912), Eaton Co 1905-06 fall and winter catalogue, a photo album with a couple of interesting photos and a couple of booklets on Native baskets - I'm keeping the booklets and catalogue.

All I found today were groceries and a continued MS attack. We've got a snowstorm blowing in tomorrow which isn't helping, and is killing any chance of finding anything this weekend. I did however turn this up at a charity thrift yesterday ... in the freebie pile. Turns out to be an artist (Hall Groat) who now does mostly commercial art for office spaces. [IMG]

Those look like colorized photos. Or they were painted from photos?

1930s watercolor on ivory. Most likely painted from photographs just as the young-man's image was within that link.

This may amuse. An album dating back to the 30s of Deanna Durbin material, including one autograph and many press photos. About six dollars.
