Featured Josef Svarc Intaglio Cut Crystal Plate - Info?

This is one of my favorite pieces from the reseller's treasures that I have been purchasing for the last few weeks. I thought the source was Steuben Glass, but when I started to try to learn more about it, this is clearly a Josef Svarc of the Bohemia Glassworks. It involves his signature flowering thistle theme and his mixture of deep cuts and light engraving. It is 8 3/4 inches in diameter. Apparently two of his pieces are part of the British Museums permanent collection. I can find little about him, only a few pieces each is different. In some cases, he is called a designer and in others an engraver. Does anyone have any information?

I have a Svarc charger. Bought some years ago at auction, for peanuts, because no one knew what it was. Mark Hill who has writtten some decent books on glass, had a look at it, and wanted to buy it, but it's MINE.

He was a fabulous engraver.

Of course being the savvy shopper that you are you got it for peanuts. Do you have photos? I had to pry it out of him. He wasn’t going to sell it, so I know the feeling. MINE ALL MINE.

I do indeed have photos, I'll have to resize them. I think it was about twelve quid!

Ohhhhhhhhh. I love how his work embraces the whole plate. It is a much more refined theme than mine but with the same dynamic flow. I see why you love it so. Thank you for taking the time to resize and share.

 

I loved the way the design made use of the whole space, if that makes sense? And that was before I realised who'd done it.

 

Yes indeed, I do understand. How he gets to the edge and doesn't crack it is amazing too.

Out of curiosity how do you use/display these crystal charger plates ?

 

I don't know about OBB, but my plate lives in a curio cabinet where the sunlight hits and it sparkles.
