HHMMMM, JMHO, the hinge and c-clasp say late Victorian but the face's slightly upturned nose say later. Maybe an older setting with a slightly newer cameo in place? Best to wait for @Bronwen :)

I made something clear to my DH when we first got married too, nothing useful for presents! Nothing like a vacuum cleaner or tool. I can buy the useful items for myself, I want useless things like jewelry ;)

The on the right looks like it may have Byne's disease :wideyed:

I've had this cameo for years.
Even though I read this thread and try to keep up, I know nothing. :(:(

Thanks fig. She is very similar to those in that salesman's sample case in your link to an earlier exchange.
I always liked the clunky setting.

Hi Sandra. She's another one from the 30s (which includes very late 20s - early 40s.)

This catalogue page is from 1930:

Text calls them 'cornelian cameos'; what is meant is 'cornelian (carnelian) shell cameos'.

Careful, or you'll end up with more cameos than you can keep track of. The one on the left could be late 40s. The girl on the right looks like a 1950s - 60s production.

I think it's all right. Byne's will wash off. If the white stays put, it's just traces of the next layer of shell.

A very popular design. She was either tweaked in the details over time or there was more than one maker, as there are at least several variations.

Czechoslovakia is what the bottom of the salesman's case says. Time frame for heyday of cameo probably 20s - 30s; from findings I'd put Book's cameo to the 30s.

    Thanks for all the info.
I had the gal at the antique shop hold it for me until Friday, so that I could get advice from you all. This is my 3ed cameo. Normally I go for white gold, but between the silver frame, and the Star of David I fell in love. I did a search on-line but could not find a cameo with a Star of David, So I figure she is well worth what she is being sold for.

    Sorry......useless?:stop:......non comprende:confused::smuggrin:

There is a hefty sentence for this. It involves being abandoned far from home in the middle of your hoard and having to find your way back with only guidance from forumites, some of whom may be out to sabotage you.
Hmm, there could be a film in this........

She wipes off, so I think she's fine. The "newer" one does look better carved than the forties one. Both plated over copper as far as I can work out.

I'm awaiting another bundle with breathless anticipation, Kate. ;)

I wish I was!. I’m having to firmly focus on selling at the moment not buying so I will just share the delight of your purchases!. I’ve just put in a claim with my bank to reclaim the package fees as I firmly tick the box of one of the reasons for it to have been mis-sold so that would be nice if I got something back from them. Not holding my breath but worth a shot!. Next self employed grant at the end of April so selling lots at the moment to stay afloat. Fortunately I have lots to sell :hilarious:.
Look forwards to seeing your next lot :)

Just brought my large cameo (the one with the hair clip) to the jewelers. They said the clasp was replaced (which I knew) and they will replace the sapphire that was missing in her pendant. They asked what I paid for her, and they were shocked. The one gal really tried to sell me one of theirs, but they are modern and yellow gold. The one gall that normally helps me set up my repairs was like "don't bother trying to sell to her, she is a "finder"" I was telling her about this group and how helpful you all have been. Will post pictures when I get her back (I so hope she is done before April 4th (My 20yr. anniversary)

Great information and lovely cameos. Thought I’d add one of my favorites I’ve owned over the years.

I haven't been around the forum much lately, it's gotten too busy at work. Glad to find this thread not far from the top when sorted by "Recent"! :)
