This thread is hilarious. Jory, welcome, and there are indeed collectors of antique cash registers - and they do indeed pay more for functioning cash registers than non functioning ones, so it is a perfectly legitimate and applicable question - and good advice for you to find out that information before purchasing. Also, the only person being a pretentious(and presumptuous) here is you. That being said - I have no reason to dislike you - I just know the people who frequent this message board are anything but assholes. I think somehow you've gotten the wrong impression simply because they are disagreeing with your assumptions. I'd take a moment to reassess your position - just some friendly advice.

I have nothing to add to the very sound advice you already got, except I would love to see the pictures.

 

I'm so sorry you feel that way....all we have done is try to open your eyes to the possibilities and pitfalls when getting involved with antiquities, of which there are many. I think I took some of the comments as being rude but now looking back I think I just misunderstood them. I apologize for that and I appreciate your help.

 

Look at the under side of the drawer. I have an old cash register and there is a paper glued there with the date of manufacture
