I bought this in an auction. It is in an original frame an the canvas looks like it was handmade. Night scene of a ship at twilight. The canvas measures 12" X 30". Any help would be greatly appreciated. 01.jpg 02.jpg 01.jpg 02.jpg 03.jpg 01.jpg 02.jpg 03.jpg 04.jpg

    Welcome to the Forum, Kirby!
I did try to find this, with no luck. Maybe someone else can, but there’s not much direction with only initials.

Hi Kirby and Welcome. Is the painting that dark or just the photo? I tried looking at marine artists, painters and a lot of images without success. Did the auction house include anything in their catalogue? Perhaps some assistance from their art specialist might help. I have always found them very helpful and happy to chat away to interested customers. I'm not sure what country you are in so that also limits my search. You can add country into your profile. I think just the initials are going to be a problem, but there are many others here smarter than me. Good luck.:)

It is a dark painting depecting a sunset. The auction house here in Arkansas, isn't an art speciality business and sell all types of items. I can usually pick up some nice artwork for cheap. I only paid $5 for this one. I really appreciate your efforts. Kirby

$5??? A bargain!! It has great atmosphere. I do notice the edges are a bit dusty and dirty. If it's any help, if you are going to on-sell, I would carefully pop it out of its frame and give the edges and front a very gentle wipe with a soft, lint free cloth. I use small amounts of distilled water on cotton tips for my canvas paintings when needed and methylated spirits for my frames (I think it is called "white spirits" or denatured alcohol in America). Best of luck with the identification.
