I picked up this lens and trying to figure out what it is for.
has a metal piece that pulls out, part at the top unscrews, looks like this should screw into something else. 2 1/2" x 1 3/4".

This is for an early box camera

The removable bit is the aperture

The exact measurement of the thread may help in determining maker/country

There is likely some faint text somewhere on it

Thank-you terry! I'll have a better look, but I couldn't find any marking on this.

If it is for a camera I suspect it would be for an early field camera,(half or quarter plate) not a box camera. The slide part could serve as a simple aperture, but then it would be one of a set, that I'd expect to be numbered.

It may be a magic lantern or epidiascope lens. Another possibility is a lens for an enlarger.

    Hi Terry,
I am blaming you for my dusty house. You use these exotic terms and now I have to look the word up and will get lost looking at other sites and not cleaning.:p:D:p:D:p:D

    Hi Terry,
You are forgiven since it is a NAME and not an adjective. I will delve deeper later, now I have to dust. RATS

Usually it is dust bunnies. If you have dust RATS I would be truly worried!

Or call PT Barnum. I had to do that with mine; I'm allergic to dust and stirring it up makes me sick. That's the excuse anyway.

    Hi,
You are all nuts, however I must confess once my back was acting up and I knew it would be impossible for me to bend down and dust under the bed and behind the armoire and triple dresser. A light bulb when on in my mind which was being invaded with a "magic med". I went and got the leaf blower and decided to gently blow the bunnies out. Needless to say the leaf blower on low blew the bunnies all over the ceiling, tops of windows and all over the bed spread and furniture. Somehow it also glued the bunnies in place on the walls.
I put the blower away and sat in the den. When the other half came home and saw the bedroom the Darling Demon from Hell just came into the den, shook her head and said nothing more than "I suppose there is a reason for the the way it looks, however I do not want to know right now"

Interruption to the dust part of this thread -
this has lots of scratches on the outside but nothing that could be considered a maker mark -
now back to the dust, lol.

    Hi komokwa,
This was before Swiffer and the area behind the armoire and dresser did not leave enough room for a vacuum but the blower did get bunnies that were there since before sliced bread.

    According to Wikipedia:

Otto Frederick Rohwedder of Davenport, Iowa, USA invented the first loaf-at-a-time bread-slicing machine. A prototype he built in 1912 was destroyed in a fire and it was not until 1928 that Rohwedder had a fully working machine ready.
