I am new to antiquing and restoration. I was given this piece and want to restore it to its former glory. Does anyone know anything about this type of design? Phyfe maybe? I will likely have to replace 3 out of the 4 feet; They've been repaired may times from the looks of them and I don't know where to start. Your expertise is appreciated!

Might be a dessert table or a plant table.
Hard to tell age. 1940 - 60s? Just a guess.

I can see it under a window with African violets on it

    Sorry, forgot to say

Those shabby chic types have a lot to answer for.

That truly is a perfect plant table, isnt it? Personally, since the damage has already been done,Id just paint it again.Maybe get it powder coated (wich is indestructible) some fabulous color. I could see this being 1870s-1880s. More Eastlake than Duncan Phyfe .

With those metal paw feet, 1940s-50s for sure. Sincerely doubt that this could be restored without major effort, nor would I think it worth doing so. As much as I hate to see good pieces painted, I think I am with Johnny on this one as far as repainting to your tastes.

    Welcome to the forum, Kendra.
I applaud you for wanting to restore pieces to their former glory. It really hurts our antiquers' hearts when we see a nice piece of furniture made of beautiful wood painted or worse. But I agree with the others, restoring this particular plant table will take a lot of work, which won't be reflected in the end value. If you want to do it out of love for the table anyway, wonderful.
But it is clear that something needs to be done. Whatever you decide, will you show us the end result?:)

    Welcome to Antiquers Kendra!

Great style.....and perfect example to what happens to "repurposed" (painted) pieces. Not a pretty sight. (IMMHO)

I love antique farm/country pieces that started off with color, and the way time actually improves them, but to paint such a table white, or any color, makes it worse in the end.

Painting it again is probably your only reasonable choice.

I agree on it making a great plant table.

Good luck with the project. And, please do let us see the results.
