The pictures are a bit vague but im getting better ones. I recently bought a pot with the similar craft from this region of Indian. Triangles inlaid bone ?

My big question is, for what was this used ? The owner calls it his 'Jumanji' case... so for some kind of game maybe ?

    Thanks ! 3.jpg 1.jpg Untitled2.jpg

I think the owner was referencing the movie because it sorta looks like it. Whatever it held, they must have wanted whatever was in it to "breathe".Its gorgeous.

Can't help wondering if it is a potpourri box.

Beautiful box, Walter, and you're right, Hoshiarpur again. No great age, but who cares, it is a beautiful box, for the right price I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
    Purpose? All of the above.:D
On Indian sites openwork boxes are called 'for all your treasures', gift box, etc. Nothing exotic, unless 'all your treasures' are exotic. You could call it a trinket box. Or a beautiful box for model airplanes.:)

    Hi guys,

I picked up the box and i attached better pictures. Its 43 cm by 28 cm. Just a bit bigger then an a4 paper to fit inside. Inlaid bone (seashell) as expected. image1.jpeg image2.jpeg image3.jpeg

Gorgeous. If you don't see shimmering pastel colours in the inlay it is bone. Mother of pearl shimmers, bone doesn't.
You can call it a stationery box.:)
