I have a 4 place setting of never used Winterling Bavaria Germany Renaissance still in its original box and never opened 3 inside boxes. There is a light blue sticker on the front of the box with Pattern Renaissance 10010 The outside box has the date 1978. Would this be Winglet I or Winglet II and should I open the boxes up to take pictures of the china. Will this devalue the china by opening up the inside boxes to take pictures inorder to sell the 4 place setting. The 4 place setting contains: 4 Dinner Plates, 4 Cups, 4 Saucers, 4 bread and butter plates. Thank you. Rob

Don't worry about devaluing china to open its box, just do it neatly, 1978 isn't an antique. Doubtful to sell these pieces without actual photographs of them. Need photos of the bottoms to sell them too, even if unmarked. We need photos of them to advise you further, or at least to see the pictures on the box if you decide not to open it.

Rob, you have four place settings. A four piece set would be only one place setting.

Sorry for posting this since it is not antique. How old does something have to be to be an antique? True, I will definitely take pics before trying to sell them. The lid on the box has been razor bladed open on 3 sides and the inside boxes come open on the sides. Rob

You can post anything on here, and I hope you will; it doesn't have to be 100 years old (antique)!

I'd think you'd want to see that they are all in good condition. Things can get broken while still in the box if they've ever been dropped.

That is true. I would not want to sale something broken and I don't think they have been out of the box. Rob

Hi Rob, sorry, what I MEANT TO CONVEY - it's not an "antique" so there's no chance of ruining the box by cutting it open! ;)

I did not mean that you shouldn't even be posting about that because it's not antique. We don't mind about that at all. For most items to be called "antique" they must be 100 years old. Some things, like automobiles, are considered antique much earlier, but not dishware.

Actually, I got the notion from the name of this forum antiquers. Thank you for defining antique for me. I am glad that the stuff does not have to be antique to get feedback on stuff. I am going to put up a couple furniture pieces. One is a china cabinet that I have a strong opinion was made by Stickley Brothers rather than Gustav Stickley and the other I have no idea but it has been in the family for a long time. I just cleaned the china cabinet out of the glassware.

Very pretty, if you plan to sell them, be sure to lighten your photos up just a little bit. I don't think the box is collectible in any way, other than to use as a shipping box, so if you don't plan to preserve the box when you sell 'em, be sure not to show a photo of it. Thank you, @rknarr2
