Featured Unsigned painting - city/street scene

Have you taken it out of the frame? I wonder if it might be paper over canvas?

A close up of the area around the yellow smokestack, or around the lady under the white awning, might use useful (not necessarily to me). I think I'm seeing condition issues in those areas.

 

I did take it out of the frame but I didn't examine the edges super closely so it's possible it could be paper over canvas. The only condition issues I've noticed are some like crazing of the paint in a couple areas. I'll get close-ups of those areas when I get home tonight.

The frame is a bit unusual, or am I seeing that wrong? The way the hanging wire attaches. Does it attach to the sides? Also what are the metal brackets for, looks like top and bottom?

Other thing that I noticed, the lines here and there sort of etched in the paint, along the chimney. I'm not a painter, is that commonly done?

Numbers on the frame: 20/24. Is it 20 x 24 inches? That would suggest English system at least.

The metal brackets actually hold the stretcher inside the frame. Other than that it's just a standard lightweight wooden frame not horrible but nothing special. I couldn't comment on the painting technique or if it's unusual or not. And yes it is 20 x 24 in.

 

It does look like Annecy France, indeed. I wonder if what I thougt was a wet street in this picture could be one of Annecy's canals?
