He is trying to look serious, because he wants to go down in history as a great scholar, she is thinking: he's doing it again.;)

Thank you for sharing this great find, Kyratango. What an interesting set. I never see things like this --ever. Adding an additional: Wow! :)

Enjoying the discussions about the metal, the photos that were in there, all of it!

In those days you didn't smile in photos, even when the technology had advanced to the point where you could without it looking like a death grin. Long exposures and all that. The kids were probably holding still on pain of the wooden spoon.

As to metal testing, scratch test with 18k gold acid instead. The silver streak on the stone should curdle up and turn white if it's silver. I never use the sterling acid; it goes bad too quickly.

The younger child in the chair could be a boy also, small boys like that usually had their hair long until they reached a certain age and got their very own first haircut, he appears to be in boys clothing also, with the chevron on the arm .. girls were mostly dressed in frilly white dresses and huge bows in their hair or frilly fussy bonnets ... Joy :).

use the 18k acid on your touch stone and if silver will turn milky. Got beat by evelyb30 :cigar::cigar:

Even when I was young the boys wore knee length pants until they were 12-13yrs old. It was a big deal when they graduated to long pants .. I remember my older brother striding around importantly in his grey flannels. Things are different now but back then it was a right of passage .. boys to men!! Bless their hearts. Joy

You are absolutely right, of course. And it is a boy's face too.
Just goes to show how easy it is to look at things from our present day perspective.:)

Did what you and Marie Forjan said:joyful: 20180524_111712001.jpg on left is the known as silver test, on right the bookchain in question...
I'd say it is same, do you agree it is silver?
(I tested too a silver plated goblet, the trace disappeared!)

Looks good, kyra.:) And the trace of the silver plated goblet disappeared, even better, looks like proof that silverplated doesn't test as silver.
The set looked like silver to me from the start, but I haven't handled it, and looks can be deceiving. But this is a good result.
