Gotta love sellers who don't do their research, with pics just clear enough to show the polish residue covered cells were intact - Norwegian plique-à-jour by Jacob Tostrup, most of the gilt still present, French 'weevil-in-oval' import mark in the bowl (out of use in 1893)...

Chinese silver gilt & enamel buttons. Button hooks have been removed as they were mounted in a bracelet.

Too bad someone damaged the buttons, Ratsy, but at least they survived.

    Beautiful.

Posting finds like this should be forbidden, though. I'm sure I'm not the first person who came innocently (if selfishly) to Antiquers, to pick people's brains and find out a little more about objects we own, then started to find themselves developing new and dangerous desires.

If I'm lucky it will pass before charity shops, auctions and estate sales are allowed again.

That's a nice set. The previous owner of these buttons was an au pair in Hong Kong and was given them as a gift from her employer.

Good luck with that! This place has me buying glassware, cameos etc. No furniture luckily - I'm out of space!

Sorry I regret to inform you that you have tested positive for the highly contagious "Antique Pox" virus which is currently incurable. Symptoms include filling your home to the brim with treasures, never being able to pass an antique shop or yard sale without stopping, and then acting like the creature "Gollum" when you locate a treasure you like. My condolences for you and your loved ones. ;):nailbiting::woot:

But that is daylight. The truly afflicted would be there at the break of dawn, with flashlights scrounging around among the vendor's boxes while they unload. They also wouldn't stop the hunt for anything ...... eating that concession stand hot dog hastily while they continue searching the rows for treasures and ultimately getting ketchup and mustard on their shirts due to their carelessness around all of those antiquey distractions. You can spot an Antiquer in a crowd by finding the one that has mustard stains on their shirt and is carrying a large bag of purchases to add to their already out of control hoard.
