Ceramic Tiles Signed Boulenger- Original or Repro?

For a long time, I have had a set of 21 6" square ceramic tiles that were removed from a building as far as I know. The style is early 20th century, and the reverse is marked Boulenger. Are these most likely original or repros? I have seen this exact style in a currently sold repro tile. Thank you for any insight.

 

With the detailed back you are showing I would say they are originals.

 

Thank you for your opinion on this- the tiles definitely show age with small chips on the ages and were removed from their original location.

 

But they show no evidence of having been grouted in the past.

 

There are more traces of mortar on others- the one I pictured was the best as far as showing the maker's name.

 

If that is the case - that something you are asking for input on is better or worse than others, it's a good idea to show more than one example so you get the clearest feedback.

 

Boulenger still exists. this here from the back looks mass-produced modern for private use. in Paris they were known for their work in the Métro.

I've got old Minton tiles with almost no sign of any adhesive. Some was done as just a few dots.

of course they are original Boulenger ones. the problem is that they are nowhere near antique or valuable.

 

The reason you don't see the grout is that the seller had a business of removing old tiles and hand scraping off the grout. Since the tiles were removed from an original location with 100+ yo grout, it wasn't as difficult to scrape off the old deteriorated grout as it would be today.

 

Thank you for your comment. The repros in this exact style are $15 each. Are the originals worth less per tile? I have 21 matched tiles all marked Boulenger.

 

my house is end-60s and in France. the last two years I had to chip off tiles in the kitchen, bathroom and a room in the basement. you have to look at the back to know the age. these here are post-WWII. I don't know where you live and what made you pay 15 $ per piece. here you'd get a smile and a handshake.

 

Thank you for your comment. The original question was whether these are old or repros. The repros sell for $15 each. These are not repros. Berenger went out of business in 1938 according to the history.

 

I sold a couple of old Minton tiles for well over the equivalent of $30.
