Today I made the run out to Savers, only to "find" a regular making off with the fresh jewelry jars pretty much right out of my hands. OTOH I got to what's likely the Bali silver beads ahead of him, so all wasn't lost. My find of the day was a bag of ink cartridges. They don't look like much, but Staples pays $2 in credit for each one I turn in, and the back was $3 with at least four cartridges in it.

This is something I found yesterday. It's plique a jour enamel meant to look Edwardian. It's pretty new, but also pretty. DSCF9180.JPG DSCF9181.JPG

Try Christopher Dresser on the repro. The bowl is Scandinavian, forgotten who.

Went to a church sale this morning. The finds of the day were an 18k gold chain in the dollar "junk" bag (It'll melt just fine, thanks!) and a new with tags size XXL Phil Simms Giants jersey. The same one is currently on Fansedge etc for $150. I paid .... $1.

Below we have a massive freshwater necklace with 14k annoying clasp ($2), a mourning pin with empty hair compartment, brown bakelite carved bracelet, a Colt Firearms employee pin, an empty gold-filled watch case I can't open, a random modern necklace, Zuni watch tips with nonfunctional watch, and a sterling naja. No, he's a bottle stopper with a barrel stand for when he's not being used. Golfer is pewter, stopper cork, barrel plastic. I've sold them before as a novelty stopper :)

One compact had a feature new to me, as it opens it wipes the mirror

Fairly common item but I found it at a reasonable price and thought it was a good addition to my political item collection.

    Hi Joe,
The only thing I have from that era is the Reagan's Christmas cards from the first 4 years he was President.

Posted on the postcard thread but thought I'd post it here for more visibility.

The conventional wisdom would be that most antique mall and antique shop vendors would properly research their wares to make sure that they are not leaving too much money on the table. But through some digging I've found that this is not always the case and that a good half of dealers selling postcards don't really have any idea of what they are doing and may greatly underprice better cards. So the next time you are in an antique store and see a bin of cards it may be worth a bit of time to pick out a few better cards.

    Amen to that !
I've had altogether too many dealers tell me..." I don't have the time to research everything..."
& when was the last time you walked into an Antique shop or store...where most of the items were ANTIQUES...?

They're rare. There's one fairly close to me that does sell mostly genuine antiques - at least in the downstairs area I can get into. Another one sells mainly furniture and rugs. The rugs are a mix of old and new.

That's how I ended up with a CDV of Edwin Booth - brother of John Wilkes Booth.
Not a real biggie, but still.
