Featured Leaded Glass Lamps

Not sure where to put this but I'm posting this for my boss who's curious about them. I suggested you lovely people and she'd love to know anything you could tell her. These are all the photos I have, they're now packed away as she's in the process of moving.

Two small table lamps, tiffany-esque, no marks on the base but I didnt check the shades. They're pretty heavy, the beigey pieces have a mother of pearl texture/sheen to them, the glass is black/purple/blue depending on the lighting. They're hexagon shaped but rather wonky, almost bashed in or dropped but there's no cracking on the glass. The fixtures have been replaced but judging by the color of the leads that was a long time ago. They were given to her 20+ years ago and they've been sitting on a shelf in the basement half that time. When she received them they were old, a second hand/vintage type purchase. I wiped them off briefly but obviously a more thorough clean is required.

When I saw them I thought they gave off a 20s vibe but I couldn't tell you if they're authentic, replicas, or even if I'm right. They're very interesting anyway, I do love them but they are staying with her, I very sadly had to put them in bubblewrap and into the box they went.

It probably helps to know that we're located in France, though I don't know if they were purchased here or in the UK.

I could see this in a Prairie Style house.

 

The thickness of the lead gives pause. usually you see that in later copies. But the cords are throwing me.

 

I'm with johnny on these. The casting quality does not look good, the lead thickness, the craftsmanship of the shades, in general, the way the cord attaches to the base, etc. They're missing pieces of lead, they're dented...Sadly, they've lived a tough life

The leads were replaced at some point, the color makes me think 70s but I don't know.

Yeah the years haven't been kind and I didn't think the quality was really there in regards to makers. Any ideas on age though?

 

I'm thinking 1970s/80s repop desk or "boudoir" lamps.

 

Slag glass shades, arts and crafts style, on art nouveau, Tiffany style bases. Definitely post 70s, but cannot specify when without labels.

 

Are you sure it's lead came? Looks like maybe copper foil and solder to me, that would explain the variations in the thickness.

 

Probably artisan pieces produced by a crafts-person/enthusiast. The "tree" pattern lamp base is a Tiffany design which was originally used mainly for his Wisteria lamps, however they have been copied & produced in their thousands and although they do the job, their quality is poor by a long shot.

 

Not old, nor good quality.... sorry.

The first time I see a real example of "Wisteria" it took my breath away. It was at the V&A Art Nouveau exhibition. having only previously seen one in books, I was amazed just how large the lamp is. A bit like seeing art paintings in books, some are massive works of art in reality. This piece of priceless jewellery by Rene Lalique, was also on display. Its absolutely stunning.

 

My word thats so lovely! What attention to detail, and the colors are beautiful.

 

If I could choose & have ONE SINGLE PIECE from the Art Nouveau period, it would be that brooch! Most people associate Lalique with glass, but check-out is Jewellry produced much earlier in is career.
