Can someone decipher the hallmarks for me? I've figured out what the AK is (Assay master for Moscow) and the date (185-). But nothing else. I know the date for this particular assay master stops at 1856.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Despite your excellent photos I can't make out the other marks. Even if I could make them out I probably wouldn't be able to help ID them. It is lovely!

No idea, on the marks, but love the care and craft that went into the intricate detail on that piece. Truly a talent sadly fading away.

Looks like the engraver had a few too many "beverages" while engraving it.Wriggle engraving is sloppy, they could not follow a straight line, many areas are off center, graver slipped and cut into areas not intended to be engraved.

@ holly , Oh, you are right, slight imperfections, I missed that. In my opinion it still took a lot of talent and skill to do that kind of work.
I guess I'm just not that smart. I was just praising the new owner, because I thought it was nice too. Cheers.

I agree, brut 33 by Faberge was a great cologne, got me laid alot in 1983 . But not worthy of the russian Tsar's..:smuggrin:All kidding aside, nobody claimed it was the holy grail, the guy got it, liked it, I like it too...why crap on his parade?

So much for asking for help... I'll do it on my own...I came here for assistance, not ridicule at my choice of antiques. I have enough crap to deal with away from the computer. I can already see that people thought it suitable to try and talk behind my back over this...
