IMG_4980.jpg IMG_4984.jpg Wondering if someone can help identify this piece? Signed on bottom Annie Squires, M 29, 1924 and there is a small number 554. The woman who owned it has passed, so I can't ask her for any history on it. I e-mailed Belleek, and they did not respond. Would like to find out if it is worth anything. Consigning it for the woman's husband, and want to make sure I'm getting him the best I can for it.

I've Googled and so far have come up with pics that are similar. Prices are all over the place though!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

That's very nice. I don't recognise the mark. It is not on the Belleek website but the signature is in the style usually associated with amateur decorators painting on blanks. Perhaps the paintbrush and palette mark indicated its intention for amateur decorators. Or perhaps it signifies hand painted at the factory. The style is very much in keeping with the date.

    Hi,
That mark looks like the American Belleek which became Lenox.

Annie Squires would be the hobbyist who painted the blank. China painting was a very popular hobby among women in the early part of the 20th century (at least in the US is was.) The dating in addition to the signature is indicative.

I wonder how I should price this? Since it was hand painted by a hobbyist, I'm assuming it's less. Totally confused, but this all makes sense. I've found a few others with the same mark on the bottom, but not signed.

Although it’s a lovely piece, it’s not going to be very valuable. If you put it on eBay as an auction it should find its right price.

How do you guys see a signature? The photos ae so small. I know my eyes are bad but I can't see a thing even looking through a magnifying glass.

Very pretty vase. At least I can see that. I had some American Belleek plates several years ago and I sold them on ebay using that maker's name. Many people collect American Belleek and Lenox Belleek. That mark is from 1906. While that signature may be (and probably is) a hobbyist, it may also be a studio decorator. The quality is very high. So if you're listing it, call it Lenox Belleek, show photos of the mark and the signature and let the buyers draw their own conclusions. You might use the term Art Nouveau in your title and Gilt or Heavy Gold trim to draw more attention. You could list it under Lenox. I know some Lenox collectors who would go for that vase right now!. If a hobbyist does a great job, their pieces will bring good prices. Here's one that is signed and dated on ebay completed listings that is not nearly as nice as your.

I happen to collect some "American Belleek" items. They can be quite valuable.

(Note that Lenox was only one of the makers.)

Please do an online search for "American Belleek" - with the quote marks. There is LOTS of info out there!

Check eBay, too, for "American Belleek" - it is NOT the same as the Parian/eggshell (often with shamrocks!) stuff you might think of when you hear the word "Belleek".
