    That’s a good idea, I can get on the site for free at our local library.

    Some could only write their name, nothing else. Mostly illiterate then.

    I’ve sent pics off to Ceramopolis, worth checking out this site, some fabulous pieces. I’ll let you know what they say. Thanks.

    The plate has the typical scalloped edge of Moustiers pottery rather than the wares from Nevers. The back of the plate has no foot or rim and the flat bottom certainly suggests that the plate was made in a hand pressed mold, again typical of pottery from Moustiers. I think this was made in the twentieth century but not necessarily to deceive anyone. It was made to appear as if a young 18th girl was practicing how to write her name and draw animals.

    Thank-you Walter. Ceramopolis replied but can’t help, they suggest maybe 19th century. It des seem very clean for the date painted.
    I still love the goats, I’ll keep this one.

    @Houseful,
    I did find a Caroline Labiche Martin, who was an artist of some kind, in New Orleans.
    Much more recently, this century. Just putting it out there for you, if you want to look into it. :)

    Thanks Hunting. I’m in UK, it’s unlikely but still possible it’s her, I’ll do some investigating when I have a moment to go to the Library. I did look online but the most mentioned Labiche was a French male playwright with no Caroline’s in his family tree, not much about any other Labiche although seems a popular surname in Canada.
