sterling silver college stickpin: maker? retailer? Wm. H. Van...

I have an enameled sterling stickpin from a NY State women's college, and I'm trying to figure out how old it might be. (The college was founded in the early 1860's.)

Please excuse me for not showing the front of the pin, with the name of the school.

Here's the back, showing the words STERLING and WM. H. VAN...



Does anyone know what the rest of Van... might be, or anything else about this one?
