My apologies for posting on such a mundane subject but I’m wondering about the age of some old forks I have. They’re made of iron and, as you’ll see in the photos, have three tines, with the middle one being shorter and sharper than the outer ones. From the research I’ve done, I’m leaning towards them being pre-American Civil War, and probably from the 1840’s or 1850’s but that’s really just a guess. Any thoughts?

Is the handle wooden or metal?

The whole thing is cast iron, which has developed a dark patina over time.

I doubt that is cast iron - more like forged (Stamped?) from some type of steel alloy

Could very well be. I only called it iron because other, similar forks I’ve found online are said to be made of iron.
