Could anyone say anything more about this either its age or origin. I was wondering if the motif symbol there had any kind of meaning in Arabic or Persian that could help identify it. I've seen a few similar ones online that are described as Damascus ware or "Mamluk" but not identical to this one. Its thick solid copper with silver inlay and had thick dark patina before I polished it. IMG_4265.jpg IMG_4255.jpg IMG_4264.jpg Thanks

Yes, it is Mamluk Revival Cairo ware, which means it is a revival of an earlier style.
The Mamluk style was made in Egypt during the period which coincides with the European Middle Ages. It was inspired by an older Persian style, which spread to Syria and then to Egypt.

Mamluk Revival Cairo ware was made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was a mix of the early Mamluk style, European styles, and ancient Egyptian motifs.
Yours looks 19th century to me, but could we see the base, just to be sure?

    Thanks, F&C.
Yes, that is a traditional way.
I asked to see the base to see the wear just to be sure it is 19th century, and it is imo.

A dove tail joint on the piece really isn't a dating help since a number of countries still use the process.

I'm pleased with 19th century, not exquisitely made inlay is a bit crude but still has character, it was jet black like soot when i found it, thanks for everyone's contribution.

So is that actually script writing on the face of it or just a design? If it is writing , what does it say or mean @Any Jewelry ? Your knowledge amazes me time and time again ....

It is script, Arabic/Islamic calligraphy. I can't read it, but I have to say, most Arabic speakers would have difficulty reading it too. Most of these are based on an old script style and very stylized.
    :shame: Thank you, Fireman.:)

Islamic calligraphy is a true art form, where beauty emphasizes the sacred word or message.

This is an entire Sura or chapter from the Quran, at the top is again Allah:
