I found another coral necklace. This one weighs 8.3 ounces and is 26 inches long. I still can't tell if it's dyed or not. There are some white parts on it, but the holes don't appear to be white. Any idea of its worth? thumbnail (5).jpg

It looks like Chinese red-dyed coral from here. I only buy those to rip apart, so I don't know the resale value.

Making other necklaces, generally. I mix them in with other beads.

Your mannequin (or whatever the proper term is) is quite stylish too! :D

Thanks! :) I just bought it. I hope it'll help increase sales so people can actually see how the necklaces look.

I'm with evelyb, it looks dyed and coated. So I personally wouldn't call it oxblood in a listing.
When buying coral, it is best to stay away from 'rough' cut coral that is really shiny. In rough pieces shiny means coated, which usually means dyed as well.
    This is what I mean:

The mannequin is nice, but I must say, jewellery on a mannequin doesn't work for me. They are usually not human size, so the necklace (and beads!) invariably turns out smaller than it looks on the mannequin.
I prefer good, pictures, in focus, not too much fuss, details and always a picture of the clasp as well. No clasp, no sale, as far as I'm concerned.

There is a seller who always photographs his diamond rings on a lotus bud. Apart from the rather suggestive shape of his lotus bud of choice, the rings are tiny on the thing. I always have difficulty actually locating the ring in the picture.
So I end up focusing on how the bud got its shape, and why the seller had to photograph his ring on a bud in general, and that bud in specific.
I have never bought anything from him.

I usually display both close up and on a mannequin for necklaces. It is a point though, if your mannequin is close to human size, it's better for scale.

I do like the picture above, esp. with the textured colored fabric behind the plain white surface of the mannequin.

I don't sell jewelry, but I like that necklace and I like the mani.
Where did you find it if I may ask?
I sell Vera scarves at times and may cave eventually and buy a mani.

I generally just shoot jewelry with a plain background, or on a piece of quartz if it's small. The stone is irregular and holds things in place. I've used gridded backgrounds too, but people still can't figure out the scale so... yeah, right.

Sorry it took so long. I read all the posts, but I've been extremely busy with schoolwork for finals, so sometimes it skips my mind to actually respond.

Thank you! :) It should calm down after this week, since I only have writing projects and no tests.
