Sometimes I buy stuff just because I know nothing about the subject and the best way to learn is by doing.

Lessons can be painful as a result and I fear this will be too :(

So with my almost complete lack of knowledge can you tell me

Q1. Where in the world was it made? (marks do not look oriental)

Q2. When was it made? (hopefully not post 2000)

Q3. What was (is) it used for? (apart from lightening my wallet!)

It is gorgeous. Looks Korean, but I agree some of the marks, like 47, are a bit puzzling.
    Others look like Korean handwriting:

Seems most likely. Googling 'celadon rice bowl' brings up many similar, all different ages.

Agree with Janetpjohn. Writing looks much like Thai, so definitely Southern Asia, and I can’t promise you that it’s older than 2000.

Ah well, it is a nice thing but a hard lesson.

Memo to self, examine base thoroughly before bidding!

The base looks new. The thickness and shape suggest little age. If you have a very strong Lupe you might want to check for "dead bubbles", which seem to be a recent technique in fashion for detecting age. Other methods are still valid so use them first. Best wishes D

I found a slightly larger version of your rice bowl with more inscriptions. The consensus on my thread is that the writing may be mirrored Thai or Laotian. If you are still looking for info on your bowl I will post the pics here.
