Thank you. The subject is the Young Hercules, much copied from a gem by Gnaios, a celebrated cutter from antiquity. It has the signature of a now little-known engraver from the turn of the 19th century, Gaspare Capparoni.

Italian - Marco Fusetti, Mosaico - Soggetti Ebraici (something about Jewish mosaic art) Venezia - Ghetto Vecchio, 1219 ...probably made for synagogue gift shop sales or something similar. The front is all glass tile and it's set in plaster with a brass surround. No clue how old it is, but post-WWII.

Somebody had no clue! I'm guessing those are old mine-cut diamonds along with the dog tooth pearls? Pretty sweet.

Johnnycb09, well I think we know who that woman with her dress fluttering up as she stands splay-legged is supposed to "represent." ;)

No offense, Johnnycb09, but I could never own/use that bowl. I would spend all my time trying to dry off the "water droplets" on it. Just kidding.

Winter is still dragging itself out here. A show that was supposed to be happening this past weekend was postponed due to the weather. I did find this brooch for $5, it was in the display case forever at the thrift shop, so I took a look at it. Sterling, American company, I looked up the name and promptly forgot it. Took me forever because I was looking at British hallmarks. Chs. Towson (640x480).jpg chs. towson back (640x365).jpg

They are still in business. Found it, Charles Thomae.

And my most favorite find in months. You have to remember I live in the pine barrens, so when I found the Jersey Devil rocking this ax guitar, I was over the moon.

I don't have the photographic capability to capture it, but under halogen light, although none is very big, the diamonds have so much fire, think they have to be decent, even though, yep, mine cut & can't be thoroughly cleaned because of nearby pearls. My interest is the cameo, so have not bothered at this time to pay to have diamonds appraised. I like them in the now nearly black silver & do not intend to shine it up at all. Part of the reason I got such a good deal on it was that seller saw the signature, but it was all Greek to him. :joyful:

I used to have family in Lone Rock, IA, &, for a time, it had a cafe. Sadly now, like the Lone Star, the Lone Rock Cafe has gone out of business, only the pestilent Hard Rock survives & metastasizes, but I so wished the Iowa eatery had put out a T-shirt. Might have kept them in business. And yes, there actually is a lone rock, great big boulder in otherwise flat farming country.

Your posts are basically the only reason I keep going back to Savers... still haven't found anything more than mediocre there.

....they stuck a $3.99 literally right next to the hallmarks. Now that’s just fate waiting for you to find it @anundverkaufen haha :hilarious:

This store is excellent, the pricer doesn't care about most stuff, just price it and get it out. Reminds me of the good old days when they were all that way.
Savers in Denver were hardly worth going to for the past decade or so, I think they actually all closed due to Illwill opening on every corner and they don't let hardly anything worth more than $20 on the floor.

    Anund excellent.
We have something similar to Savers here and you can bet your bottom dollar that that sticker would be covering the marks. They seem to do it intentionally here.
Plus ours has for the most part, just junk.
