Has anyone come across a table like this.
Appears to be an embroidered cover on top, legs and leafs.

Any help re: origin, period and likely worth, gratefully accepted.

    Here are some images below

Can`t see them as you put them in the gallery and made it Private.

In your next reply/post click the box "Upload a File" and post the pics direct from your PC or source.

Reminds me of those "camel saddles" that come from the Middle East. Interesting that someone appears to have cut the backs of the leather or fabric to make a little "repair" on the backs with the rectangular squares. Probably the metal support gizmo which hold up the 3 sides got stuck. Interesting table. Looks like the legs are scrapped from another piece of furniture and the bolt heads that run up them are just decoration.

That looks very unusual, I would say it has a Middle East touch to it, but I`ll let others comment.

Unusual table the like of which I have not seen..... Nor have I seen that mechanism before. Think it has a fair bit of age. Any provenance?

I don't see this as repaired or married. It looks original to me. Could be late victorian but I would guess more likely early 20th century; further close ups of the table bottom would help. Seems to me to be a Japonism art nouveau design but could have been made into the 1920's when fringe and tacks like that were being used? Wood rails in the center meant to turn and slide under the leaves with leather pads. Looks like you got it to do that in the last picture? Be very careful cleaning it or leave it as is. I like it.

I realized I could look at closeups. It is possible that someone took an existing table and did all the cloth decoration including hand embroidery and attached it to cover the legs and top. Would have been a lot of work, but some people used to have the time to do things like this before we had TVs and cellphones and the internet (all the hand made quilts and decorated ceramics we see from the 20's). The best way to decide if the decoration is original would be to see what kind of finish is on the table underneath the decoration, though clearly you don't want to damage it to see what is there. If unfinished the decoration is probably original; if varnished top and legs probably decoration added later.

Thanks Jeff....I too think its original, wouldn't clean it as I am not experienced enough or know of anyone who could. I did turn the mechanism to show the table in as much glory as possible.

Would you post a close-up of the embroidered bits and one of the fringe? Helpful for dating.

'Clover leaf table' turns up things this general shape, & at least one that is drop leaf, but nothing that remotely matches.

And close ups of the legs or a leg as well please.
Right now I am thinking either 19th century European Orientalist, or made in North Africa with European influence.
Tunisia, for instance, has had a sizeable Italian community for centuries, which served as a permanent connection and influence between Italy and Tunisia.

My vote is for 19th century European. No real Orientalism.
