I love it, but it's proving tricky to clean. Especially those wavy decorations. How the hell do you get in there to rub out the tarnish!?

Would also like to know if this bowl has a specific name or purpose? It's about 3-4 inches high, has a foot (as you can see in pictures) and is about 8-9 inches in diameter.

I used Brasso to give the bowl its final clean-up and shine. It's looking pretty good now!

Sorry - bad memories for many of us old boardies who came from the other place.

Please do not use Brasso to clean silver. There are other better cleaners.

I normally don't use Brasso, but the stuff I usually use was not yielding any sort of results on the really hard to clean areas.

This is about as good as the polishing is going to get, for the time-being...

    Hi,
I use a red rouge powder to deep polish sterling, do not use on silver plate.

Thanks! As you can see from the photos in my previous posting, there's still some niggling areas which need cleaning. I'm not sure how the hell to get in there...

Household Ammonia on a cotton bud, have ventilation to stop it irritating your eyes.

What effect will the ammonia have, pardon my ignorance...?

It will clean the tarnish off.
    The bud will be black.

It should be a couple of Dollars for a half litre.
    I`ve used it for years.
Look at these two silver coins, took me me 2 minutes including photo`s.
I`m not advocating cleaning coins, but it does not matter with these two.

Ammonia is a component of most silver polish. The good thing is, it does not have any abrasive junk like silver polish often has.

It can be used as a component in the production of crystal meth too

Why does that bowl give me the craving for ice cream?

I would not be eating ice cream out of it.

    Why not?

Because there are too many crevices in that bowl for the ice cream to hide in. :hilarious:
    ;)
