  1. Screenshot_20180317-194407.jpg Hi, I am new to this site. I am decorating my house in retro 1950s style, but have been having an extremely difficult time with it. I am trying to find a certain cabinet as well as soon other items, but it is all proving to be next to impossible. So I was hoping to get some help... any help at all. I have uploaded a picture of the type of cabinet(larder) I am looking for. Thank you so much to anyone who is able to help.

  4. Thank you for telling me how to do that! :)

  5. Thank you. Everywhere I look has a different time frame as well as name for these cabinets. That is one thing that is making this so hard. As well as the fact that mostly all I get when searchng are Pinterest results.

    From Google:

    If you're searching for "Larder Cabinet", use the following string to exclude search results from Pinterest:

    "Larder Cabinet -site: pinterest.com"
    (When typing the above query in google, remove the space between the colon and the p. I had to put the space in the query to avoid an automatic :p emoji).

    I also think the item you are searching for is more from the 1930's or 1940's
    In my apt building, the original kitchens all had Hoosier cabinets like the one you are looking for. Now they are long gone.

    I hope you find what you are looking for.

    Sorry, never heard it called a Larder cabinet before.
    Use Hoosier cabinet for search term and see what you find.
    Art Deco Hoosier for the style you are looking for.

    Hmmmm, I think that generally we on this website are sensitive to the fact that quite a few people on this forum are from (or originally from) countries other than the USA.

    Perhaps we can be as "sensitive" to the fact that the USA is a large country with its own diverse population. Various items are known by various names in all of the various regions of the USA. (Thank goodness I have now gotten "various" out of my system. :D)

    I know that on occasion I will "think" of something which was in my grandmother and grandfather's house (some of which items I am pleased to say I inherited from Grandma and Grandpa). I still refer to those items using the terminology I grew up hearing my grandparents use.

    I had only one set of grandparents still living when I was born. My grandfather was born in 1875 and my grandmother was born in 1882. They were married and set up housekeeping in 1904 and I remember and have photographs of the "celebration" of their 50th wedding anniversary.

    Then again, I may be (and probably am) in some young whippersnapper's estimation on the "antique side of life" myself. :rolleyes: :hilarious:

    @yourturntoloveit

    I'm sorry - Did you think I was being insensitive? I certainly didn't mean to be.
    I was only asking because the terminology was one I hadn't heard before.

    This forum has attracted people from all over the world, I made the wrong assumption that possibly Mechanical was posting from England. In which case "Hoosier cabinet" would not have helped in the search.

    Unfortunately when the forum was set up, they didn't allow for where people are located. It's something that would be helpful now that we have so many people from other countries joining us. I don't know if that is something that can be changed.

    I'm the only member on this thread who identifies where they are from.....just click my flower !

    If I can put my city there ...EVERY ONE of YOU can do the same....& so can everyone else.

    So often we ask members " Where are you from ? " , but it seems to me that the desire to remain anonymous is pervasive......and so, many replies will continue with the opening question....." where are you located"....:(:(

    & as for the members who put an age...or date of birth....that is false......
    get a life !!!!:confused::confused::confused:

  20. I didn't think that you were being insensitive at! I really appreciate any help I can get and there's never any harm in asking a question. I also really appreciate your insight as well as enjoyed seeing what you had to say. I agree with you that it depends on where someone is from as to what they call it. I have even seen it referre to as a kitchenette. Again, I really do appreciate that you took the time to answer on here! Also... I would prefer to think that you are just wiser and more experienced rather than antique! :)
