I finally heard back from one of my e-mails, came from the grandson of Cicero and he said it wasn't done by his Grandfather.

Yes, I don't either. It is in pencil, maybe I'll see if I can remove it.

 

the pencil dents the softer wood...you'll have to carve it out......

 

I thought it looked a little questionable, though I thought the signature looked pretty similar to real ones. I am not familiar enough with August to offer an opinion though. It is fairly common, sadly, to find a mask or other item item "signed" incorrectly.
Komo and I both know several sources that feature fake signatures.....there's an ebay seller of NW Coast items who always mentions that his offerings are signed....but oddly, never includes a photo of the signature.
