    Found this today and thought these photos might be appreciated on the US side of the pond.

    In memory of all the brave fighters in June 1918, and with deep appreciation to the US Marine Corps.

    You didn’t give dimensions but that’s most likely a German 77 mm field gun cartridge case. We use the term “appliqué” to describe the type of TA where the designs are soldered on, as opposed to being engraved or pressed into the case.

    Yes, it is 77mm casing diameter. The shell had 3 feet applied at some stage, these have come off and the last number of the date partly obscured with solder, but looks to be 1917

    Very nice example!
    They were quiet popular over here as well, bring them often.

    Kris, that’s the best one I’ve seen, have never seen one with that particular technique which incorporates the whole vertical surface into a sculpture. The applied patination is great also. If u decide to part with it some time please let me know! Wonderful piece! Since it was made as a souvenir and would have required a mold, there must be others “out there” somewhere.
