Pics are not really sufficient to tell much. I get an Edwardian feel about this and from a single craftsperson or small workshop. What provenance do you have?

I can't see any initials in your second chair, but I would guess the ones on your first chair are the owner, not the maker. It was not that unusual for owners to mark their furniture, which has led to a lot of confusion. Similar, has anyone bought any mid-century silver and found the owner's social security number etched into it? Different times...

From what I can see these are both early 20th century factory made dining chair.

    Not silver, but some glass.
In the 1970s, more houses were being broken into. The local police departments advised etching your DL# or SS# onto items for easy identification.
My husband still etches his DL# onto any new tools.

Thanks for your reply but most chairs that are antique were signed underneath its trying to find an expert on these signatures they are definately hand made i think the E.B chair is e.b tracys eldest son but very hard to find out the e.b is impressed into the wood

I suppose it depends on what you mean by antique, but very little mid-19th century and earlier antique furniture in the US (the stuff that was handmade) is signed with a maker mark. You sometimes see it on Windsor chairs (and these are not Windsor chairs) but rarely on anything else.

If you're talking about EB Tracy Windsor chairs, then these are definitely not that. If you want opinions on how your chairs were made and better opinions on how old they are you'll need pictures showing the underneath surface and closeups of the joints where the pieces of wood come together.

@Karld Did you ever find out what the initials mean? Do you still have the chair?

Hi I have a chair exactly with those initials. E.B and the number 35. I only bough 1 but it came on a set of 4. I bought from a house clearance in Poole UK. Apparently the owner used to travel around the world. I am trying to find out the maker too.
