They look native american to me - your pic that shows the marks is a bit out of focus - can't tell exactly what it says under J J (probably just says STERLING - I think) . You may be able to find the maker here:

The way the signature is done.....& the side cuts, & the shell, & the twist wire rope...all speak to me of Native Made .........cept the loops & diamonds....that looks put there later !

I agree, the earhook is a later addition. It looks out of place.
And spiny oyster inlay. Modernist style.
The style, with that rope twist loop, is more like John Chavez than Johnny Johnson. Both sign with JJ and both are Navajo.

Totally agree that the ear wire is a new addition, I wonder if they were clip on or screw back originally.

 

The shell didn't start showing up until the 80s if memory serves. Maybe the 70s. That knocks screwbacks out. They may have been posts originally and one broke. It was probably easier to break the other and add rings than to solder a new post on.

 

I like them a lot.
