Can anyone ID what model cigarette lighter this is?

It's circa WWI and may have been military issue in Britain and the Empire. It's a flip-top sort of thing. This example is missing a wire bit that connects that top hood to the loop on the side. When the lighter jacket is pushed down (or the barrel slid up depending on your point of view) the loop-and-wire linkage flips the hood to the side. Just another thing kicking around my grandparent's place that I remember from childhood and have looked for on and off for decades. These photos are from an eBay listing. But DANG! that's expensive!

    I guess it's called a "trench lighter".

Yes, I think there are either repros or they were in production for a very long time. I've seen some that say Austria, and others that appear to be Japan. Now that I've got the name, they don't seem particularly uncommon, and can be found for considerably less than the one I saw.

I haven't found them previously because I've been looking at bullet lighters, which was what my memory indicated. Plenty of those, new and old, but not quite the same thing.

Here's an Altry but no info - you can at least find out what it was sold for if you have a Worthpoint subscription

IMCO of Austria and Bowers in the US were big manufacturers, but they were made all over the place.

    Found this online:
IMCO stopped producing this lighter in early 1930's and the factory closed in June 2012. Today eBay is overloaded with same design cheap Chinese products.

You know it's a good hiding spot when YOU can't even find it!

I bought it new in the 80s.
Unmarked. Several details are slightly different.

One thing about the listing I saw on eBay: seller says the lighter was found in France on the Somme battlefield. If so, the details of that particular piece are worth noting. It doesn't show any obvious markings either.
