Where and when did you get them? My gut reaction is that these are modern Indonesian, though those knobs look like they could be old. Pics of back and drawer construction (joinery and entire bottom) would help. a look at the locks and a knob and how it attaches off the drawer might also help. Any markings anywhere?

It looks like it was repurposed from something else,a desk perhaps.

I think those are the two pillars from a desk with the top missing. Late 19th C or a bit after.

Looks like the front of the top edge was damaged and filled.

I agree Bear, it looks like someone tried to jemmy the top drawer too.

  7. The matching one has the same marks. The handles are attached with the same colour brass square fittings inside draw. I think they are desk pillars but love them none the less. They are extremely heavy

  8. They are definitely not Indonesian, tend to agree that they are desk pillars though. Sneaking suspicion that they could be cobbled together but it doesn't matter, love them anyway.

New pics prove these to be old. Am with the others that these are from a desk. Explains the non-conventional tops seen.

I have my Pa's desk which is very similar. Top lifts off, so it's easy to see how these were repurposed.
