image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg I found a Silver watch metal detecting that my research has directed me to be a trench watch. Possible one issued to WW1 soldiers from their personal necessity issued sacks.
The S/N puts it at 1903-1904. WW1 did not start until 10 years after.
What personalized this is the owners initials scratched into the back.
Am I way off on this theory of age?

    Hi, Rehsmj!

As Bakers asked, where are you - i.e. where was this found?

Certain markings seem to indicate that this was made in Germany:

What serial number list were you using to estimate the date?

What manufacturer have you determined this to be from?

    Crescent Watch Case Company
I found 7 hallmarks stamped throughout
2 above and 1 below the 935 mark.
1 on the rim (3 standing bears total)
What looks like W over a Co
    L M with a flower in between
A crescent moon next to a crown which research lead me to believe this stamp indicating a Swiss made watch imported to Germany.

Here is where I got the serial number referance.

The crown and crescent mark are the German state mark. I see no Swiss marks, could you post a close up please?

The serial number list does not seem to relate to this watch.
It is Swiss made and retailed in Germany, and could have been about the WWI period. It probably had a second watch strap lug, since broken off but evidence should show it was there. The winder also seems to have rusted away, but the layout does not indicate a converted small pocket watch.

Found in the US, some doughboy could have brought it back from the war. It is not a trench watch. This term is usually used for wristwatches with special half hunter cases with an arrangement of protective bars over the dial and glass.

Yes there was another strap arm and a winder which were missing.
The watch face numbers are visible but not in the picture. The numbers are the identical font as this picture.

Here is my un-dug picture I found on trench watch history and it looked identical to mine.

I appreciate all the great responses on my watch.

Well... The German crown Halmark lead me to believe it was imported to the USA and "put together" by Swiss Watch makers here in the US and sold as Swiss made Watches?????

Case and movement were made in Switzerland. 935 silver was used in Switzerland, in no other watchmaking country at the time.
Not all WW1 period watches were 'trench watches' although the term is widely misused.

Officer's kit as listed, was usually purchased by the officer, not issued.

That face guard is what I would call the distinguishing characteristic.
